PEAK TROVES

Privacy policy

Last updated: November 6, 2026

Peak Troves at peaktroves.com helps you record mountain summits, track hiking challenges, explore trails, and share a hiking profile. This policy explains how information is used when you use the app.

Information we use

  • Google sign-in information: your account identifier, email address, name, and profile photo, as provided by Google.
  • Profile information: your chosen username, display name, and public or private profile setting.
  • Hiking information: mountain selections, summit dates and notes, custom peaks and challenges, saved hike plans and planning notes, and records you import or enter.
  • Technical information: authentication sessions and technical request information processed by our hosting and authentication providers, such as IP addresses, browser information, and service logs.

Google account data

We use Google account information to authenticate you, associate saved hiking records with your account, and display your account name and photo. Supabase manages the sign-in session and account storage. Peak Troves does not receive your Google password or request access to your Gmail messages, Google Drive files, calendar, or contacts.

Google account information is not used by Peak Troves for advertising or training AI models. You can review or revoke Peak Troves’ Google access in your Google Account connections. Revoking Google access does not by itself remove the hiking records already stored in Peak Troves.

How information is used and stored

We use your information to operate your account, save and display hiking progress, provide weather and trail features, apply your sharing choices, and respond to support requests. Account and hiking records are stored through Supabase. Vercel hosts the application and processes requests and technical logs needed to serve it.

GPX hike imports are processed in your browser. The original files and GPS tracks are not uploaded or stored by Peak Troves. Only the mountain selections and dates you confirm are saved to your account.

Saved account and hiking records remain associated with your account until they are changed or removed, or you request account deletion. Hosting, authentication, and other service providers may retain backups or security records under their own retention practices.

Public profiles and sharing

New profiles start private. If you make your profile public, your username, display name, and per-mountain summit summary become publicly accessible, including mountains and latest summit dates. Detailed repeat-visit logs, summit notes, and saved hike plans remain private to your account.

Your account email is not part of your public hiking profile. You can change your profile visibility in Profile & sharing. Making a profile private stops its public availability through Peak Troves; copies previously saved by others may remain outside the app.

Weather, maps, and other services

Peak Troves uses external services to provide mountain information:

  • Open-Meteo: mountain coordinates and elevation are sent for weather requests. For weather on your summit date, the recorded date is also sent.
  • Openrouteservice: selected trailhead and summit coordinates are sent to calculate a hiking route.
  • National Weather Service and Avalanche.org: mountain coordinates are used to find weather alerts and relevant avalanche forecast zones. No account information is included.
  • USDA Forest Service and Wikipedia/Wikimedia: mountain locations or article identifiers are used to retrieve trail and camping information, descriptions, and photos.
  • OpenStreetMap and image providers: your browser requests map tiles and images directly. These requests reveal your IP address and ordinary browser/request information, and map tiles identify the area being viewed.

Peak Troves does not include your account name or email in its weather, hiking-route, trail, or mountain-article lookup requests. The app uses selected mountain and trailhead locations rather than requesting your device’s live location. External map and directions links open services governed by their own privacy practices.

Cookies and sessions

Authentication cookies and session tokens keep you signed in and allow protected pages to identify your account. Blocking these cookies can prevent sign-in from working. Peak Troves does not include advertising or advertising-tracking features.

Your controls and requests

You can edit your profile and sharing setting, remove summit entries using the checklist, and download a summit/profile backup from Import & backup. For help accessing, correcting, or deleting your account and stored information, contact samuel7330@gmail.com. We may need to confirm account ownership before acting on a request.

Contact and updates
